James Barr Armstrong was born on March 13, 1816 in Edgefield, South Carolina to William Armstrong (29) and Harriet Rachel Robinson Armstrong (31). His sister, Rebecca Ann was born in 1819 in Anderson, South Carolina, when James Barr was 3 years old. His sister, Melissa Ann was born on August 2, 1824, in Pendleton, South Carolina, when James Barr was 8 years old. His sister Ann Emeline was born on April 19, 1827, in Edgefield, South Carolina whdn James Barr was 11 years old. His sister Sarah Adeline was born on August 11, 1829, in Gwinnett, Georgia when James Barr was 13 years old. His sister Mary Minerva was born in 1830 in Georgia when James Barr was 14 years old. He married Elizabeth Jane Porter in 1839 in Randolph, Alabama when he was 23 years old. James Barr Armstrong lived in Texas during the Apache Wars, when white settlers and native Apache battled for control of the area. They had 11 children in 22 years. He died on February 9, 1883 in Somervell County at the age of 66. Their children are pictured in a photo taken at the celebration of Samuel Barr Armstrong’s 60th birthday.
