Mr. Hewlett was born on January 23, 1928 in Georges Creek, Somervell County to Alfred S. and Floy Armstrong Hewlett.  He graduated from Glen Rose High School and received his bachelor’s degree from Texas Tech University.  He served his country in the U.S. Air Force and was a rancher.  He married Patsy Vaughn on July 3, 1975, in Mambrino.  He was a member of Georges Creek Baptist Church.  He was a member of Masonic Lodge #525 of Glen Rose.  Brother James R. Hewlett made a master Mason on June 2, 1949, in Glen Rose Masonic Lodge No. 525.  master of Glen Rose Masonic Lodge No. 525 in 1967, endowed member of Glen Rose Lodge No. 525, Granbury Lodge No. 392, Chalk Mountain Lodge No. 894, and Tranquility Lodge No. 2000, past district deputy grand master of District No. 66 of the Masonic Grand Lodge of Texas, member of Fort Worth Scottish Rite Mason, member of Moslah Temple Shrine AAONMS, member of Granbury Chapter No. 454, Council No. 369 and Commandary No. 100, charter member and former secretary of Granbury Scottish Rite Club, charter member and secretary-treasurer of Lake Granbury Area Shrine Club, 60-year service award presented June 24, 2008, and member of Granbury Eastern Star #530.  He owned and operated Doyle Insurance Agency since 1974. At the time of his death he was serving as chairman of the board.  He worked for several years for Foremost Dairies in Texas, Argentina, Korea and Japan as plant manager before he returned to Glen Rose in 1965.  He later purchased the Tillman Agency in Glen Rose, where he was owner and operator for several years.  He was a very compassionate, caring and giving person to many people in different walks of life.  He donated the land for the Hewlett Park in Granbury.  He also donated the land for the first Habitat for Humanity house in Granbury.  He serves as past president of the Optimist Club in Granbury.  He served with the Granbury City Electrical Board and was a member of the Granbury and Glen Rose Chamber of Commerce.   He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John and Harrison Hewlett; and a son, Randy Hewlett.  He was survived by his wife Patsy Hewlett of Glen Rose, children, Denna Jones and husband, David, of Granbury, Kressie Shirey of Granbury and Time Hayworth and wife, Becky of Granbury; grandchildren, Justin Jones and Nicole Adair; great grandchildren Skyler, Alexism Ryleigh Adiar, Parker-Pete Jones, and Hayden Whittet;  sisters, Norma Woods of Rainbow and Barbara Flynn of Cleburne; and several nieces and nephews.
