Rebecca Brown was born to parents, Randall K. and Helen May Brown on April 5, 1929 in Bentonville, Virginia. After growing up on the family farm, Rebecca set her sights on moving to the big state of Texas. She met, fell in love with, and married Homer W. Barnes. They were married for over 20 years and had two children, John Barnes and Georganna Barnes.
Rebecca remarried in 1972 to Charles W. Keller of Glen Rose, Texas. They owned and operated a campground on the Brazos River for over 25 years, until Charles’ passing in 1995.
Rebecca was an active volunteer for various organizations and became a lifetime member of The Order of the Eastern Star. She held numerous prestigious titles, including Worthy Matron, OES of Glen Rose Chapter No. 171 in 1997; Worthy Matron, OES of Ruth Chapter 20 in Cleburne, Texas in 2005; and received an appointment by the Worthy Grand Matron for the Grand Chapter of Texas Order of the Eastern Star in 2008.
Rebecca had a zest for life and loved to cook and entertain; her adult girlfriends would often call and ask if “Li’l Rebecca could come out and play.” She was always ready for a cruise or road trip to the hot air balloon races. It was often said that she reminded people of Lucille Ball and should have been an actress because of her beautiful red hair and flair for comedy. She loved making people laugh and she was adored by all who knew her.
Rebecca was survived by her two children, John Barnes of Milam, Texas and Georganna Barnes of Granbury, Texas. She was especially close to her numerous nieces and nephews from Oklahoma and Fort Worth, Texas.
