Ervin was born in Paint Rock to Maudie and Ruel Tomlinson. He married Vennie Hudgins June 18, 1941 in Denton, Texas. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II. He was a farmer and truck driver. Ervin was a member of the Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Maudie and Ruel Tomlinson; two sisters, Emilie Adams and Violet Barnard; and two brothers, Melvin and Gerald Dale Tomlinson.
He was survived bu his sons, James Dwain Tomlinson of Clay City, KY and Larry Max Tomlinson of Lipan; daughter, Barbara Hutchinson of Tolar; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; five sisters, Lillie Purselley, Dora Dean Staggs, Laverne Brown, all of Granbury, Betty Jean Thrash of San Antonio and Neta Addison of Lipan.
